Daniel Saror

Prof. Daniel Iyorkegh Saror is a Nigerian veterinary surgeon and academic who served as the 7th Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1991-1995), before representing Benue North-East in the Senate (1999-2007) and later contesting for Governor of Benue State.

Saror was born on 9 October 1941 in Zaki-Biam, Benue State.

He attended Gindiri Boys Secondary School (1957-61) and Gindiri Higher School (1962-63), before studying at Georgetown University, Kansas State University (1967, 1970), the University of Minnesota (1972-73), and training as a veterinary surgeon at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Saror joined Ahmadu Bello University as a Lecturer II in 1970, later serving as Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (1983-87) and as the university's 7th Vice Chancellor (1991-95). He continued teaching at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Agriculture, Makurdi, into his 80s.

Saror was elected Senator for Benue North-East on the PDP platform, taking office on 29 May 1999, and served on committees covering Solid Minerals, Science and Technology, Agriculture, Finance and Appropriation, and Water Resources, as well as Vice Chairman of the Education Committee. Re-elected in 2003 on the ANPP platform, he was appointed Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate (2003-2007). In April 2007, he contested unsuccessfully for Governor of Benue State on the ANPP ticket, losing to Gabriel Suswam.
