James T. Gire

Prof. Col. James T. Gire is a Nigerian-born psychologist who serves as Department Head and Professor of Psychology at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in the United States, where he holds the honorary military rank of Colonel.

He holds a Ph.D. from McMaster University.

Gire's research specialties include the psychology of aging, substance abuse (with an emphasis on alcohol and tobacco), and cross-cultural and international psychology. His published research includes studies on the relationship between financial stress and happiness among Nigerians, examining the intermediary role of meaning in life. He has been cited by hundreds of other researchers and has authored numerous academic publications.
