The Muri Emirate, with its seat at Jalingo, holds one of Taraba's six first-class stools (Daily Trust, 2018). According to Wikipedia, Muri was founded in 1817 as a Fulbe jihad state by Hamman Ruwa, who died in 1833. The emirate was deeply divided until about 1880, fought the Jukun chiefdoms, especially Kona, and submitted peacefully to the British in 1901 under Emir Hassan. Abbas Njidda Tafida, of the family of Lamido Nya Jatau, the founder of Jalingo, has been the twelfth Emir of Muri since 12 July 1988.
