A tall, tufted savanna grass reaching up to 2.5m, found from Senegal to northern Nigeria.

Reported in Nigerian traditional medicine for threatened miscarriage and bleeding, though documentation is limited.
Food Uses
Grazed by livestock only when better forage is scarce — the stems are bitter and not preferred.
Cultivation
Grows wild in open savanna grassland; the tough stems have been used for rope.
