Description
A large savanna tree that exudes an aromatic resin (copaiba balsam), common in the Guinea savanna belt, including areas near Tiv country.
Medicinal Uses
Resin is applied to wounds and sores and taken for leprosy in parts of West Africa; bark and leaf infusions treat coughs and colds; gum and bark are used in Nigeria for urinary tract infections.
Cultivation
A fire-tolerant savanna woodland tree.
