A thorny shrub or small tree bearing a tart, edible yellow fruit, known across northern Nigeria as tsada.
Medicinal Uses
Used across West Africa for malaria, fever, skin infections, wounds, diarrhoea, and constipation; the stem bark is used for gastric ulcers.
Food Uses
The ripe fruit is eaten fresh or made into jams, drinks, and preserves.
Cultivation
A thorny, drought-tolerant shrub of savanna and bushland.
