A low, hairy annual herb with small white daisy-like flowers, common in damp, disturbed ground (Eclipta alba, now generally treated as Eclipta prostrata).

Widely used in African and Asian traditional medicine as a hair tonic and for liver ailments, wounds, and as an anti-inflammatory; the crushed plant stains black, a property used in hair and skin preparations.

A common weed of damp waste ground, rice paddies, and roadsides.
