A savanna shrub or small tree with a woody rootstock and bright yellow flowers, related to the cotton-tree family (Bixaceae).
Medicinal Uses
Rhizomes and leaves are used across West Africa to treat malaria, jaundice, diabetes, and diarrhoea; leaf oil has shown antimalarial activity in laboratory studies.
Cultivation
A wild savanna shrub that regenerates from a fire-resistant underground rootstock after bushfires.
