A woody climbing vine of the soapberry family with compound leaves and winged leaf stalks, common in West African forest and savanna.

Widely used across West and Central Africa as a wound-healing and bleeding-stopping agent; leaf and root decoctions treat diarrhoea, stomach-ache, malaria, and bacterial infections such as typhoid and gonorrhoea.

A wild climbing vine of forest margins and savanna, not commonly cultivated.
