Bark and root preparations of Lannea species are used across Africa for wounds, gastrointestinal complaints, fever, malaria, and gynaecological disorders.

The ripe fruit is eaten fresh or made into juice or jam; young leaves are cooked as a vegetable.

A wild savanna and woodland tree, sometimes retained or protected in farmland for its fruit.
