Description
A small to medium savanna tree with distinctive two-lobed, camel-footprint-shaped leaves.
Medicinal Uses
Bark, roots, leaves, and flowers are widely used across sub-Saharan Africa for malaria, respiratory infections, wounds, toothache, stomach-ache, and to manage prolonged menstruation and haemorrhage.
Food Uses
The sweet pod pulp is eaten by children and travellers and can be pounded into a porridge flour; pods and leaves are also used as livestock fodder.
Cultivation
A hardy tree of savanna woodland, tolerant of fire, drought, and poor soils.
