Description
A small tree of swampy and seasonally flooded savanna, in the same genus as the Asian kratom plant.
Medicinal Uses
Bark, root, and leaf preparations are widely used across the Sahel and savanna West Africa for malaria, fever, diarrhoea, hypertension, diabetes, and skin infections.
Cultivation
Grows naturally in damp, seasonally flooded savanna and along the margins of ponds and mangrove swamps; the wood is used for small artefacts.
