Gwagwalada is the traditional headquarters of the Bassa people in the Federal Capital Territory, and their traditional ruler bears the title Agụma, held according to Wikipedia by Alhaji Muhammadu Magaji. Before the Federal Capital Territory was created, Gwagwalada was under the Kwali District of the former Abuja Emirate, now the Suleja Emirate (Wikipedia). In January 2024 the local monarch, Alhaji Magaji, told the FCT minister at a town hall meeting that the Gwagwalada divisional police headquarters had only one patrol vehicle (Within Nigeria).
