Rop is a language of Niger State, according to Roger Blench's Atlas of Nigerian Languages (2020), which classifies it as Kainji (Western Kainji: Lake group).

Rop is a language of Niger State, according to Roger Blench's Atlas of Nigerian Languages (2020), which classifies it as Kainji (Western Kainji: Lake group). The Atlas places it in Borgu LGA of Niger State and Yauri LGA of Kebbi State, in at least six villages on the east shore of Lake Kainji and two on the west. Other names include Lopa, Lupa, Kirikjir. Speaker figures in the Atlas: 960 (1950); 5,000 (1992 estimate). Glottolog groups it with Tsupamini under Lopa (lopa1238).
