Iga Idunganran, the palace of the Oba of Lagos on Lagos Island, is No. 45 on the National Commission for Museums and Monuments' list of declared national monuments (as 'Iga Idunganran (Oba's Old Palace)'). According to Wikipedia, the old palace was built in 1670 for Oba Gabaro on land that Chief Aromire had farmed for pepper, and its name means 'the palace built on a pepper farm'; it was later refurbished with materials, especially tiles, brought from Portugal. The modern part of the complex was commissioned on 1 October 1960 by the Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, and modernised again in 2007 and 2008. It is the venue of the Eyo festival.
