The Afan festival is held every 1 January by the Agworok (Kagoro) at the palace of the Chief of Kagoro in Kaura LGA (Wikipedia). Afan means 'hill' in Gworok, after the hills of Kagoro, where the Agworok once lived. Wikipedia says the festival is believed to have been observed for over 400 years; it was formerly held in April, at the end of the harvest and the start of the hunting season, and it opens with the chief priest climbing the hills to pray.
