The Atyap, called Kataf or Katab by the Hausa, are a people of southern Kaduna State, named among its peoples by the federal government's state profile and Wikipedia's list of the ethnic groups of Kaduna State.
The Atyap, called Kataf or Katab by the Hausa, are a people of southern Kaduna State, named among its peoples by the federal government's state profile and Wikipedia's list of the ethnic groups of Kaduna State. They speak the Tyap cluster of Central Plateau languages (Roger Blench's Atlas of Nigerian Languages, 2020). Wikipedia names them among the peoples of Zangon Kataf, Kaura, Jema'a, Kauru and Kaduna South LGAs. Wikipedia describes the Atyap, Bajju, Agworok, Asholio, Takad, Atyecarak and Fantswam as one ethno-linguistic group (Nerzit or Nenzit); Zangon Kataf is a town in the chiefdom of the Atyap.
