The Atyap Chiefdom is the traditional state of the Atyap, with its headquarters and the palace of its ruler, the Agwatyap, at Atak Njei in Zangon Kataf LGA. According to Wikipedia, it was created in 1995 and raised to first-class status in 2007, and it has four royal houses, one for each of the four Atyap clans. Dominic Gambo Yahaya, Agwatyap III, received the staff of office on 12 November 2016 (Wikipedia) and was conferring titles at his palace in June 2026 (Ahmadu Bello University).
