Aten is a language spoken in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State, according to Roger Blench's Atlas of Nigerian Languages (2020), which classifies it as Plateau (Beromic). Other names include Ten, Etien, Ganawuri, Jal. It is also spoken in Jema'a LGA of Kaduna State. The Atlas cites speaker figures of 6,710 (1963 census); about 40,000 (Kjenstad 1988; Blench 2003). A literacy programme is in progress; Mark appeared in 1940, and the New Testament has been published. Glottolog lists it as Eten.
